Bloggers Pay It Forward: Help Connie Jo

I'm part of a group called Bloggers #PayItForward we blog of a person or family in need. Around Our Way was not compensated for this post sharing is caring, is not responsible for the donations, and this blog may contain affiliate links.

Sometimes, we as individuals think have we done enough to help someone out or at times we think what more can I do to help this family by me blogging and sharing this post I'm helping spread the word of #HelpConnieJo.

Here's her story, as told by a close friend:

Connie is a disabled senior suffering from Lupus, related severe arthritis, circulatory issues, and is also diagnosed 70% deaf. Additionally, she suffers from permanent

damage as a result of injuries that occurred during her former abusive marriage. She lives independently with her two 'therapy dogs', Dakota and Cochise, whom she loves dearly and considers her family. Her dogs provide her with emotional companionship, security, and are her 'ears', hearing such things as the doorbell, since she is unable to hear it herself. Prior to becoming disabled a few years ago, Connie was known to be a dedicated hard worker her entire life. She is a very compassionate, kind, caring and giving person. Throughout life she has often sacrificed her own needs for sake of helping family, many friends, and even strangers in need. She was the sole caregiver for her father when he was terminally ill, and cared for her younger brother when he was ill with kidney disease. Prior to his death in 2008, Connie offered to donate one of her kidney's to help her brother, but doctors determined he was not medically eligible for a transplant. She is also an animal lover, and has adopted countless neglected homeless dogs over the years, including 10 year old Dakota and 2 year old Cochise.

In early 2009, a traumatic life transition began for Connie. Pshychologically broken, battered, and sick, Connie divorced her spouse after suffering a lengthy history of physical, pychological and financial abuse. The abuses by her former spouse

continued after her divorce. She was advised by trauma doctors and legal professionals, to relocate to protect her physical and emotional well being. In late 2010, Connie courageously left behind the place she had known as home for almost 40 years. Along with her two beloved dogs, Connie relocated to Kansas City and began rebuilding a new life free of abuse, torment, and fear. Her former husband destroyed all financial security, so Connie sold a majority of her personal belongings and property to raise enough money so that she could afford to buy an inexpensive, modest, 2 bedroom home in Kansas City that is handicap and wheelchair accessible in a safe senior community.

Despite disabling and painful physical challenges, for the past 3 years Connie has been slowly cleaning up the once run down house. She has proudly accomplished transforming a house in to a safe, peaceful, and comfortable 'home sweet home' for herself, Dakota, and Cochise.

Connie's only personal source of income is her retirement/disability, which is a fixed

income of less than $800.00 monthly. She is unable to supplement her income due to multiple disabilities and healthcare restrictions. Her former husband was court ordered to pay $600.00 monthly into a trust fund for Connie but he has not done so in violation of court orders. Her property taxes and insurance were to be paid from this special needs trust fund.

Despite her financial limitations, Connie has frugally managed to pay her home's insurance premiums and for necessary basic home maintenance repairs, but she has not been able to pay her property taxes the past 3 years. She and her two beloved dogs, Dakota and Cochise, face the uncertainty of being homeless as of January 1st, 2014 if the past due property taxes on her home are not paid in full. The state of Missouri appears to have no resources or feasible programs available to help.

Jackson County, Missouri has added almost $2,000.00 in penalties and interest on her past due taxes. The county has stated they will continue to charge interest on the unpaid taxes. Due to her fixed income and disabilities, she is unable to obtain a loan to pay her property taxes. She has no family financially able to help her, and all other efforts made to pay the past due taxes have been unsuccessful.

Hoping for a Christmas miracle, we're now turning to her friends and fellow human beings asking for your help to prevent Connie, Dakota, and Cochise from losing their home. If we can raise $10,000.00, we can pay the past due property taxes, penalty, interest, and pay an additional 2 years home taxes in advance. This plan will allow Connie to live securely in her handicap accessible home another 5 years, at which time her monthly fixed income should increase. At 62 she'll be eligible for additional income through her Social Security, and should then be able to pay her home's property taxes herself.

The money raised will be securely deposited in to Connie's trust fund, and

the trust will directly pay her property taxes to Jackson County, Missouri. Any additional money raised over our goal of $10,000.00, will also be deposited in to Connie's trust fund to help pay future property taxes, insurances, necessary home repairs, such as if her hot water heater would need replaced, or to provide necessary veterinary care for her beloved dogs.

Connie is a very proud humble person, and not the type of person who would ask others for help. Rather, she is the one always helping others, but this time she desperately needs our help, to save her safe and secure handicap accessible home from property tax foreclosure.

You guys... it will NOT be that hard to save Connie's life as she knows it if we work together. I have over 150,000 fans on Facebook alone, and if each one donated LESS THAN A DOLLAR, we can give this woman everything she deserves, and more. And what a better way to pay it forward this holiday season than giving to someone who would give to any of you in a heartbeat!

Allergen Resistant Bedding $200 Gift Card Giveaway

My daughter and my husband suffer from allergies in the Spring & late Summer both stay indoors around those time of the season, but there are indoor allergies such as dust mite, too. So, when I heard of the Allergen Resistant Bedding $200 gift card Giveaway I had to participate.

Do you or someone in your house suffer from allergies, asthma or dermatitis?  One of the most common household allergies is the common dust mite.  This little bug lurks pretty much everyone in your home, but they particularly love bedding including your mattress and pillow because of the essential buffet that your leftover skin cells leave in copious amounts.  You could dramatically decrease your symptoms of allergies, asthma and dermatitis by minimizing your dust mite exposure.  Easier said than done, right?  One of the easiest ways is to encase your mattress and pillows – but so many on the market are made from noisy and hot plastics that result in an uncomfortable night’s sleep and the immediate removal of the protective encasing, effectively exposing you to these bugs and ultimately, the symptoms.  Krista from Savory Savings recently had the chance to review dust mite-resistant mattress and pillow encasings from Relax Bed ding – check out her thoughts on these soft and easy to clean allergy reducing bed accessories!

Would you like to win a $200 gift card to Relax Bedding to help reduce these symptoms in your home?  Enter with the giveaway tool below.  This giveaway is open to US residents, ages 18 and older.  It will run from November 4, 2013 through November 18, 2013 at 11 PM CST.

Good luck!

Kashi Hummus Crisps Sea Salt & Olive Oil

I received  Kashi Hummus Crisps Free from BzzAgent in exchange for a review along with coupons to share with family and friends.  All opinions are 100% my own.

One day my daughter came home from school she immediately saw and opened the bag of Kashi Hummus Crisps. I was standing next to her when she opened it and the aroma inside the bag was very strong it had an earthy scent. We, both looked at each other dipped our hands into the bag popped the chip in our mouths and started crunching.

We thought we wasn't going to like it, no way. We were wrong the Hummus Crisp looks like potato chips, but better and healthier. The Hummus Crisps are very thin and light it's delicious you wouldn't know you're eating chips. My daughter disappeared with the bag and I haven't seen it since.

For every serving it packs some fiber and proteins without sacrificing the mouthwatering flavor. Kashi Hummus Crisps contains at least 3g fiber, 3g protein, 5g of whole grains, no partially hydrogenated oils, no high fructose corn syrup, and no artificial anything. Crunch your way to three naturally yummy flavors: Caramelized Onion, Sundried Tomato Basil & Feta, and Sea Salt & Olive Oil.

If I Should Die Before My Dog Book Review

Sponsor: Channel Islands Book Tours provided If I Should Die Before My Dog book to Around Our Way for review.

I have never thought of what if something happens to me who’s going to care for Jupiter or if I'm unable to physically care for him. Some dogs are lucky and have a home to go to; others are not so fortunate and they end up in animal shelters or in unwanted homes. I know for sure I don't want Jupiter in neither of those places I want him in a place where I know he'll be looked after and in a home where he'll be understood making his transition easy and comfortable.

When I was reading If I Should Die Before My Dog book I got stuck at the page where you need to fill out “Where Will I Go Now” this is the part where I fill out the name of the person who is going to care for him. Honestly, I had no clue who would end up with Jupiter so I skipped that page and continue reading the book.

When I finish reading the book I can happily say I'm very grateful to have this book in my possession here's why...

If I Should Die Before My Dog is a great guide it prepares the new owner how to care for your dog. You can fill out his personal info, such as his name, where he came from, and his medical history along with his good or bad habits, and other vital information which will help your dog and the new owner in his new home.

I will definitely recommend If I Should Die Before My Dog book it should be in each dogs home and  stored in a well hidden place or put it in with your important documents think of it as a Will.

Meet the Authors...

Joe & Cathy Connolly wrote If I Should Die Before My Dog within 3 months based on their own life experience with the loss of Cathy's parents their dog Miss Mandy, the Pomeranian was left behind luckily Cathy's brother took over Mandy's care.

Lysol Power & Free Multi-Purpose Cleaner with Hydrogen Peroxide

I received Lysol Power & Free from BzzAgent in exchange for a review along with coupons to share with family and friends.  All opinions are 100% my own.

My experience with both Lysol Power & Free Multi-Purpose Cleaners with Hydrogen Peroxide it cleans very well I use the products in my dogs' eating area.

Ok, I use the spray twice a week on Jupiter's food stand not his bowls to freshen up his area with a light citrus sparkle zest scent not overpowering at all and I use the wipes daily after his food intake he is a messy eater. I loved the wipes and it's cleaning capabilities, but I didn't like the oxygen splash scent to much.

It is safe for my Jupiter it has no harsh chemicals nor bleach it kills 99% of bacteria and it dries quickly. I didn't have to use gloves to protect my hands from using the product.

Jarritos & #LatinFoodFest13

Sponsor: Hispano Bloggers provided a video link to Around Our Way for review. See, Disclosure Policy

To be honest I've seen these Jarritos in the supermarkets but never thought of buying those type of sodas it looks too sweet to drink. Looks can be deceiving once I've checked out the video it kind of changed my mind on what they add to these little jugs here is the story of how Jarritos became so popular.

Jarritos @ Around Our Way

There motto "We're Jarritos and We're not from here" the most cherished soda in Mexico. Jarritos in English means little jars or jugs these fruity sodas were created by Francisco "El Guero" Hill in the 1950's.

He created Jarritos in his dining room table by adding all natural flavors such as fresh fruits and real sugar. There's no high-fructose corn syrup in these fruity sodas. All of Mexico loved it and his family including his wife, but she just wanted her dining table back.

Don Francisco added many exotic flavors mandarins, limes, grapefruits, tamarinds, pineapples, hibiscus, mangoes, quava and he worked closely with local growers to ensure the bests were use for Jarritos. By the 1960's it was shared in the United States. Since the creation of Jarritos until now the recipe has not change.

Oh..I almost forgot to mention #Jarritos is one of the sponsors for #LatinFoodFest13.

Reuse Leftover Candles

Nothing To Disclose:

A few years ago, I started researching how to make candles and there was a whole stream of how to's, but the one that caught my eye was how to reuse your leftover candles. Honestly, I wish I had saved the link but I didn't I would of love to give credit to that person whom open up my eyes on not to throw out your used up candles.

For many years I've been reusing my leftover candles I even taught my mother. I gave her a set of 6 metal votive  and a pack of wax wick she tried it and she loved it. She said it was very easy to do so now every time she burns a candle and there's no more to burn she saves the leftovers.

Kohl's Glass Candle Holders
First, you will need an old pot, leftover candles, essential oils (optional), votive, cooking spray, and wax wicks. You can buy wax wick at any craft store it's available in various sizes the one I use was 2" long.

Leftover Candles
Add the pot on the stove and turn on heat to low to medium let it warm up, spray the pot, and add the leftover candles. You may have the metal part still connected to the leftover candle from the previous wick don't worry about it add the candle in the pot. Once the candle melts completely use a utensil or a toothpick to pick it out and throw it away. It may take up 10 to 20 minutes or longer depending on how much you candles you have leftover.

wick, candles
While your candle is melting in the pot have your votive or candles holders ready add your wax wick in the middle of the votive, and pour your melted candle in your votive.

Melted Candle
If you wish you can add a few drops of essential oil in the candle to give it a nice scent such as lavender, eucalyptus, or peppermint which ever you like.

Reuse Candle
Wait about 20 to 30 minutes for it to fully dry and then it'll be ready to be lit enjoy your reuse new candle.

Would you try this method or would you buy an already made candle?

ColgateTotal Mouthwash

I received a complimentary #Colgate Total Advanced Pro-Shield #Mouthwash bottle for review from Influenster.

I always have a bottle of mouthwash on hand being that I'm a coffee drinker. After I have my few cups of coffee I use a mouthwash to get rid of well you guys know the coffee breath so I swish and swish.

My honest opinion of #Colgate Mouthwash at first it was a little strong for it to be alcohol free, but I guess it was the peppermint flavor. After a few days I was very happy with the results I love the peppermint blast flavor and as far as the 12 hour protection it worked for long time I went through the whole day even after dinner and my mouth was feeling clean.

I'm still halfway from finishing the bottle you will feel a difference once you start using the Advance Pro Shield. I recommend #Colgate Total Advanced Pro Shield Mouthwash.

What mouthwash do you use?

"I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes."

DramaFever: Historical Fiction Telenovelas/Shows Online with English Subtitles

Sponsor: DramaFever provided a subscription to Around Our Way in exchange for a post.
Redeem a 1-month free pass to DramaFever

I'm a huge fan of historical fiction books, so when DramaFever contacted me about their online telenovelas or shows I had to check it out. I love it!

My favorite is Isabel  I of Castile, she finds herself in the royal court of 15th-century Spain, ruled by greed, lust, lies, and, above all, an insatiable hunger for power. To all Historical Fiction fans you will definitely love ISABEL.

Another one I plan to watch is Red Eagle (Aguila Roja) a masked hero who fights injustice in 17th century Spain as a Ninja and he's seeking to find his wife's killer. This one is great for anyone who loves action & adventure shows.

Both shows are in Spanish with English subtitles I'm a big fan of subtitle movies, too. I went through the first episode listening in Spanish and reading the subtitles in English I was having a Spanglish moment.

Would you like to watch these novelas online?

Of, course you do I'm thrilled to announce DramaFever is giving Around Our Way blog readers a free one-month Premium membership pass. This pass gives you unlimited ad-free access to the entire content library of telenovelas and international shows, and the ability to watch in your iPhone or Android, Google TV and Roku platforms in HD!

Scott Brand Toilet Paper

I was running low on toilet paper and hand towels my go to store is Family Dollar it’s a couple of blocks from me and it’s nearby.  I’m looking thru the paper towel aisle I notice, Bounty Basics is on sale for $6. There was a woman looking at the same thing she commented the price isn’t bad especially it being Bounty Brand. Yes, I did I took the hand towels 8 rolls for $6.  Ok, next to the toilet paper aisle and picked my Scott brand bathroom tissues 12 rolls for $5.50 at regular price.

I was walking to the register and notice the same woman walking next to me and I saw she was carrying the Cottonelle bathroom tissues. We both got in line and started to chitchat about the brands we each use in our homes. She asked me, what’s the difference between both brands?  We began to discuss the price, ply, and thickness of the toilet paper and I replied with how I use to like the thickness & softness of Cottonelle, but it was too thick for my septic system and for our personal use.

My house structure is from the late 1920’s I have a very old septic system any other brand of toilet paper would clog up my toilet. I had to switch to Scott brand I think when Scott  invented  the toilet paper it thought about us and it was also thinking about our septic systems, too. She told me in surprise her toilet clogs up all the time she never thought it would be the toilet paper. She has been using Cottonelle bathroom tissues for years. I can see it in her face she was thinking about switching from Cottonelle to Scott Brand, but in the end, she remained with Cottonelle Brand at check out.

Since, I’ve been using Scott Brand my septic system has not clogged up at all. Well, not from toilet paper. It has been part of our daily needs and it will continue to do so I’m not going back to anything else. I’m a member of Scott Share Values  become a member you’ll receive great deals and rewards sign up it’s free.
