DramaFever: Historical Fiction Telenovelas/Shows Online with English Subtitles

Sponsor: DramaFever provided a subscription to Around Our Way in exchange for a post.
Redeem a 1-month free pass to DramaFever

I'm a huge fan of historical fiction books, so when DramaFever contacted me about their online telenovelas or shows I had to check it out. I love it!

My favorite is Isabel  I of Castile, she finds herself in the royal court of 15th-century Spain, ruled by greed, lust, lies, and, above all, an insatiable hunger for power. To all Historical Fiction fans you will definitely love ISABEL.

Another one I plan to watch is Red Eagle (Aguila Roja) a masked hero who fights injustice in 17th century Spain as a Ninja and he's seeking to find his wife's killer. This one is great for anyone who loves action & adventure shows.

Both shows are in Spanish with English subtitles I'm a big fan of subtitle movies, too. I went through the first episode listening in Spanish and reading the subtitles in English I was having a Spanglish moment.

Would you like to watch these novelas online?

Of, course you do I'm thrilled to announce DramaFever is giving Around Our Way blog readers a free one-month Premium membership pass. This pass gives you unlimited ad-free access to the entire content library of telenovelas and international shows, and the ability to watch in your iPhone or Android, Google TV and Roku platforms in HD!

Scott Brand Toilet Paper

I was running low on toilet paper and hand towels my go to store is Family Dollar it’s a couple of blocks from me and it’s nearby.  I’m looking thru the paper towel aisle I notice, Bounty Basics is on sale for $6. There was a woman looking at the same thing she commented the price isn’t bad especially it being Bounty Brand. Yes, I did I took the hand towels 8 rolls for $6.  Ok, next to the toilet paper aisle and picked my Scott brand bathroom tissues 12 rolls for $5.50 at regular price.

I was walking to the register and notice the same woman walking next to me and I saw she was carrying the Cottonelle bathroom tissues. We both got in line and started to chitchat about the brands we each use in our homes. She asked me, what’s the difference between both brands?  We began to discuss the price, ply, and thickness of the toilet paper and I replied with how I use to like the thickness & softness of Cottonelle, but it was too thick for my septic system and for our personal use.

My house structure is from the late 1920’s I have a very old septic system any other brand of toilet paper would clog up my toilet. I had to switch to Scott brand I think when Scott  invented  the toilet paper it thought about us and it was also thinking about our septic systems, too. She told me in surprise her toilet clogs up all the time she never thought it would be the toilet paper. She has been using Cottonelle bathroom tissues for years. I can see it in her face she was thinking about switching from Cottonelle to Scott Brand, but in the end, she remained with Cottonelle Brand at check out.

Since, I’ve been using Scott Brand my septic system has not clogged up at all. Well, not from toilet paper. It has been part of our daily needs and it will continue to do so I’m not going back to anything else. Hurricane Sandy & The Aftermath

We prepare for Hurricane Sandy we bought many can goods, lots of water and a few batteries for our flashlights and for our battery-operated radio.  Just in case, our power goes out.  Hey, you never know.  Oh, and filled up our gas tanks.  We felt ready for this storm.

During the Hurricane, we felt the house shake, we heard the wind whistling, we saw the pine tree from next-door (empty house) up rooted and it fell on the house and saw a cable wire loose swaying through all this wind from the light pole across the street.  It was a long night until about 9:50 pm the power went all out.  It was pitch black.  Luckily, a week before the storm around our way there was a garage sale I bought all a bag full of candles for $7.00.  I started lighting up candles all around the house and turned on the radio to hear of any news on of the storm.

A few months ago, we were looking into generators the ones that are installed to the house not the portable ones, but this company was asking for $9,000 and they offer 6-month financing.  Are they crazy?  Really???  Maybe, we should think about a portable generator they are less expensive but doable.  We are still undecided on whether to purchase one or not.

The next morning we got up still no power.  I prepared breakfast we got dressed and went outside to see the Aftermath of Sandy.  The  roof of the house has a few missing shingles, the gutters are all gone only two attached to the house, the garage roof definitely needs more repairs then the house, and one of the posts to the fence needs a replacement.  After inspecting the house and the property, we decided to take a ride around the neighborhood.

As I am driving, I see in the apartment complex down the street from me a tree down and underneath the tree, about four parked cars damaged and stuck.  In the neighborhood, many traffic lights are out, lots of trees uprooted and down.  It was chaos without the traffic lights working.

Once, we got home around 12:30 pm the power was restore.  One of our neighbor said the power came on around 11 am.  We were happy but worried for our family, friends, and others who have lost their power.

What Are Your Updates?

I’ve been posting about my thrifting days lately so let me give you a little update on what I’m currently doing and thinking of…

I painted my bathroom I am about finish with it; the walls are bare and needs some other colors beside gray/white/light blue.  I was thinking of adding an accent color like yellow.  I was checking out bella gracewall décor to see if I can conjure up some ideas. Another thing I need to finish up is adding the caulk tape instead of using the tube it’s less messy and simpler for the bathtub.  Also, I’m looking for a mirror for the bathroom with a fancy frame.

I was in Old Navy and took advantage of the 40% off last week and yesterday had to exchange a couple of items at Old Navy, which they had 30% off so I bought couple of items.  I was looking at some sandals but nothing caught my eye only a couple of shorts for my daughter. I use to own a pair of sandals long time ago although they were not cute they were so comfortable.  I saw some cheap Birkenstocks for women.  I found a few sandals on sale but I still think it’s too pricey.

Has anyone tried body adhesive?  I’ve heard of it but I never tried it before I guess it’s convenient for stockings.  I remember when I wore stockings it always slide down and I use to pull them up all the time it was frustrating.  If I had known then what I know now “it stays body adhesive walmart” would have been handy then.

What are you guys up to?

French Bucket Vase

The French Bucket Vase is a thrift store find, do you remember this picture?

I spray paint it white. Yes, I know another white update. But, what is a girl to do when she buys about 5 cans of white spray paint for $1.41 each it was on clearance. I, also bought 3 cans in black.

I was thinking of using the french bucket vase for my curling irons or brush.  I was inspired by another blog. Jen, she spray paint a glass cylinder vase.  I had her link, but for some reason it's not working.

Here is the finish product...

FALL TABLESCAPE

I've been in hiatus for sickly reasons. I'm doing well getting my energy back on track.

I'm in a decorating FALL mood, so I'd like to share my tablescape...

Most of the decorations are from the CVS store down the street from my house that particular store went out of business last year. The store had a huge sale & I took advantage of it.

From the Thrift Store...A pair of brass candle holders for about $3.50.

From CVS... I have two cage pumpkins and one orange pumpkin, which is in the center of the table, the table runner, and 2 pack of fours plate mats. The cost was no more than $10 bucks.
From Family Dollar...The votive clear candle holders a set of three it actually looks like miniature vases. I paid $3.00.

I'm adding this post to Between Naps on the Porch.

Gothic Romance Novels

Last year, I started to read Gothic romance novels and I could actually say I love it. In my younger years I watched Gothic romance movies such as Jane Eyre, Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility and many more which I can't recall this instance and I still do. But, I have to say the movies leave so much out oppose to reading the novels it has more information.

Well, I can say I am a proud owner of Meridon by Philippa Gregory the author who wrote The Other Boyeln Girl, which was created into a movie. (You gotta see the movie) Can you believe I bought this book at the thrift store at a very cheap price plus it was 25%off . If I'm not mistaken I think for about no less than 2 bucks.

Another book I own is the Complete Novels of Jane Austen which I'm currently reading. I actually didn't read this book from the beginning. Pride & Prejudice and Sense & Sensibility are included in the novel I saw them on the premium channels so I started to read North Abbenger, Mansfield Park, and Lady Susan. Once, I was done reading the previous novels I decided to read the ones I saw on TV. I bought it on Ebay for about eleven bucks.

The last book which I recently purchase and own is Treasury Of World Masterpieces The Bronte Sisters it has 3 novels Wuthering Heights, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, and Jane Eyre. I haven't read this one, yet. But, I did see Jane Eyre the movie and I'm happy to announce when I'm ready to read this book I will start from the beginning being that Jane Eyre is the last novel to read. (hehehe) I paid $6.07 plus free shipping on Ebay. What a deal!!!

Publishers' Information

It has gilts or golden color all around the edges of the pages.

Was this book a deal or what?

Thrift Store Finds

I would like to share with you my Thursday Thrift Store Finds.

I have a project in the works for the French Bucket Vase .

The Easter Tree with decorative eggs it has a few broken branches, but it's facing towards the
back no one is going to notice a few missing branches.

On my last trip I missed buying the pitcher and last week I was in luck I found a white pitcher, four ceramic hand painted eggs and an Easter Bunny. Do you know where are these going? Oh, heck I'll tell you. It's going on the mantle.

Heart Shape baking pan or mold I will save it for next Valentines' Day.

Muffin pan for crafts, only. It didn't come like that... baking spray was added for a craft this weekend.

Along, with a few votive and pillar candles and a few children's book. I took my daughter with me she got too happy picking out books and a few stationery/stickers for her scrapbook.

Check out my receipt, do you think it was worth the money?

Updated Candelabra

The above candle holder or the correct term for it is Candelabra is a Thrift Store find. The actual price was $2.00 and if you go on Thursdays all items are 20% off. You guessed it I got it on a Thursday.

It has very nice features, but I wasn't feeling the color. There were a few discolored spots I've decided to spray paint the Candelabra white. This is my first attempt to spray paint something and I like the end results.

So, from that (see above) to this (see below).

What do you guys think?

Oh yeah, I'm working on my Easter Mantle a work in progress.

New Credit Card Rules

2/23/2010
Update: I wrote the Credit Line Reduction article in January 2009, here is an update of the New Credit Card Rules effective February 22, 2010.

CREDIT LINE REDUCTION

It has been happening to numerous cardholders, because of the financial crisis and in recession credit companies are reducing consumers line of credit, but to reduce without notifying the cardholders is an outraged.

Most companies are not notifying the cardholders of any modifications toward their reductions pay close attention to your monthly statements.

Also, they are closing accounts, so don't be surprise if your account is suddenly close. It seems that the companies are not making no money at all from cardholders by purchasing in small amounts leaving no room to pay towards the interest on the card. This very smart from the cardholders perspective, but not for the financial institutions they're losing money.
Cardholders are more likely at risk if they have use their cards close to their credit limit or to the max. Even though you pay on time or you've been with the company for years you may receive a reduction on your credit line or your account maybe close.

I have a few tips that you can follow it's not set in stones, but give it a try.

How to respond to a credit line reduction
